About Us
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim is a leading educational institution dedicated to providing high-quality technical education in the state of Sikkim. It is one of the ten newly established National Institutes of Technology sanctioned by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament as part of the 11th Five-Year Plan in 2010. The Institute commenced its academic journey in July 2010, operating from a temporary campus located at Ravangla, Namchi. The primary objective of this establishment is to provide excellent technical education and promote research and development activities in science and technology to produce skilled human resources. NIT Sikkim has been granted the status of "An Institute of National Importance" by the Government of India, recognizing its role in developing highly skilled human resources in various fields of science and technology. Governed by the NIT Council, the Institute has four statutory bodies: the Board of Governors, the Finance Committee, the Building and Works Committee, and the Senate. It is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, New Delhi. A notable aspect of the Institute is its commitment to instilling a sense of societal responsibility and belongingness among its members, leading to numerous initiatives by students, faculty members, and staff to empower the underprivileged and contribute to the nation's development.

NIT Sikkim provides multiple avenues for the students to learn inter inter-disciplinary, intra-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary and research for taking up societal and industrial demands.

nation and the world. Currently, Research activities focusing on machine learning, cyber security, artificial intelligence, sustainable MSW management etc.
