About Us
Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) was established by Haryana Legislature Act No. 7 of 2010 after carving out from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar on December 1, 2010. The University has two constituent colleges and one Institute of Para Veterinary Sciences (IPVS). College of Veterinary Sciences (CoVS) is the initial academic unit of the University engaged in graduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, research and extension education in veterinary and animal sciences. The College has its roots in the first Veterinary School established at Lahore in the undivided India in the year 1882. With the formation of Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) in 1970, the college became a part of HAU. The College became constituent college after creation of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in the year 2010. Through its academic excellence, the College has produced great human resource. A large number of its alumni have been topmost functionaries in many prestigious academic and research institutions in India and abroad. Apart from this, the graduates and postgraduates of this College have contributed significantly to the White Revolution and food security in the state and the country. College of Dairy Science and Technology (CoDST) is the second constituent college of LUVAS, Hisar started from the academic session 2016-17 with the mission to develop highly professional dairy specialists through value based education, research and training in dairy technology for meeting technological and societal needs. The mandate of the university is to improve animal health and increase production through education, research and extension in Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The main focus is on teaching, research and extension related to livestock and poultry for the ultimate benefit of dairy farmers.
Area of Excellence
LUVAS has touched greater heights in academics as well as transferring laboratory research to the animal owners through extension activities with the sole aim of targeting service to the farmers through ‘One World, One Health’ concept of World Health Organization. The university has expanded its research and academic initiatives by promoting collaborative research on important aspects of veterinary, animal sciences and diary technology with the national and international institutes. LUVAS has its main focus on teaching, research and extension related to livestock and poultry and has been playing a crucial role in the development of livestock sector as an instrument of rural development through its multifarious activities

To liaison and establish vital linkage with department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development of the State and Union Government, specialized in Veterinary and Allied Sciences with the view to keep abreast of the latest technology.
To undertake study in marketing strategies of livestock and livestock products, conservation of livestock breeds and wild animals
