About Us
Bharata Mata College, Kochi, Kerala is an ISO 9001:2015-certified autonomous institution affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Since our establishment in 1965, we have consistently upheld a tradition of excellence. Our commitment to quality education was recognized when we received A+ accreditation from NAAC in 2019, followed by autonomous status from UGC in 2023. Notably, we are Kerala’s first fully solar-powered campus and were awarded DBT STAR Status in 2022 for our focus on science and research.
The institution has consistently ranked among the top colleges in India. In the NIRF 2023 rankings, BMC was placed in the 100-150 rank band in the college category, while the KIRF 2023 ranking positioned it at 24th nationally. According to THE WEEK Best Colleges of India Ranking 2024, the college secured 55th place in the Science category (3rd in Kerala), 59th in Commerce (2nd in Kerala), and 61st in Arts (2nd in Kerala). India Today Ranking 2024 recognized Bharata Mata College as the best BBA college in Kerala, with the Social Work department ranking 4th in the state. The institution was also honored with the "Greater Kochi Best College Award" for Environment and Sustainability (2023-24) by the Greater Kochi Development Forum.
The college offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, including 74 ICT-enabled classrooms, a Central Library, two air-conditioned auditoriums, six seminar halls, an audio-visual room, two examination halls, two canteens, a herbal garden, and extensive sports facilities such as a football ground, cricket pitch, and basketball courts.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college actively monitors academic activities and ensures effective feedback mechanisms. The college currently has five research centres in the disciplines of Commerce, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and English. Each research centre is equipped with dedicated research rooms featuring Wi-Fi connectivity and laboratory facilities, providing an ideal environment for scholars to conduct research and engage in guide-scholar discussions.
