About Us
National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Kolkata (NIPER-K) was created in 2007 under the aegis of the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizer, Government of India, Institute of National Importance and to provide for its incorporation and matters connected therewith. NIPERs are conceived to provide leadership in pharmaceutical sciences and related areas not only within the country, but also to the countries in South East Asia, South Asia, and Africa. NIPER is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities to become a globally recognized brand. The main objective of the institute is to offer the following programs. M.S. (Pharm.) and Ph.D.
The institute started with M.S (Pharm) in 3 disciplines viz Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products, and Pharmacoinformatics in the year 2007. Subsequently, 2 new courses were added – Pharmacology & Toxicology (2018), Pharmaceutics (2020).
Currently, PhD programmes are being offered in Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products, Pharmacoinformatics, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Pharmaceutics.
Current Research Activities:
1. Synthesis of selected API/KSM. KSM for Sartan series of Compounds (OTBN) and Atorvastatin. API for Norfloxacin, and Ofloxacin.
2. Computational drug design / Artificial Intelligence in drug development.
3. Pharmaceutical reference standard, impurity synthesis and profiling.
4. Nucleosides/Oligonucleotides for diagnostics and therapeutics on different targets of Virus and Cancer.
5. Transcriptomics and proteomics study for the small molecules and phytopharmaceuticals
6. Antibiofilm Studies
