Indian Insitute of Technology Indian School of Mines Dhanbad

IIT ISM Dhanbad ,Dhanbad

About Us

The Indian School of Mines was formally opened on 9th December 1926, by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India to address the need for trained manpower related to mining activities in the country with disciplines of Mining and Applied Geology. In 1967 it was granted the status of a deemed to be university under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. Since its establishment, IIT (ISM) has undergone considerable expansion of its activities, and presently it can be considered as a total technology education institute. Since its inception and close to a century now, IIT (ISM) has been serving Indian industries in the Energy, Mining, Mineral and Petroleum sectors by providing high quality trained and specialized manpower in the form of Engineers, Scientists and Managers.

Design and Development of Automated Roof Support System “SAGES”

Webinar on “Recent Advances in Municipal Solid Waste Management” A webinar on “Recent Advances in Municipal Solid Waste Management” was organized by the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering on 30 Nov, 2021. Prof. Brajesh Kumar Dubey, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, delivered the talk. Key highlights of the talk is provided here: India with the second largest population in the world, produces a huge quantity of waste and a considerable percentage of it goes unmanaged. India, being a developing county is following the endof pipe approach to waste management. In coming decades, around 70% of the Indian population will move to urban areas which will also increase the amount of waste that is being produced due to change in lifestyle. In order to have a sustainable f ... uture for the population of the country, the waste management approach needs to be re-evaluated. It is important that we go from end-of-pipe waste management approach to pro-active waste management approach, where we manage the waste before it is produced. Globally, the annual resource consumption has exceeded the resource produced annually by the mother Earth and if we continue to do so, the future generation will be in peril. So, addition of the concept of circular economy and resource recovery is extremely important in future waste management scenario. Prof. S R Sammadar, the organizer of the event said “Minimization of waste generation, segregation at source and implementation of the concept of circular economy through resource recovery and utilization are the future of sustainable solid waste management”.

Webinar on International Workshop on “Smart and Resilient Bridges"

Webinar on International Workshop on “Smart and Resilient Bridges” A webinar on “Workshop on “Smart and Resilient Bridges” will be organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 3-5 Dec, 2021. International Speakers: Prof. Paolo Gardoni, Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign, USA Prof. Leroy Gardner, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Imperial College London, UK Prof. Alessandro Palermo, Civil & Natural Resources Engineering, University of Canterbury, New Zealand Prof. M. Shahria Alam, School of Engineering, University of British Columbia, Okanagan, Canada Prof. Filipe Magalhães, Civil Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal Prof. Tomonori Nagayama, Civil Engineering, University of Tokyo, Japan Prof. Ravi Ranade, Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, University of SUNY Buffalo, USA Key highlights of the talk is provided here: The workshop is designed to explore the e ... merging technologies in the domain of bridge engineering, i.e., bridge instrumentation, digital twins, real-time monitoring and automated design. A team of national and international experts have voluntarily come together to virtually enlighten the audience about the technology-enabled smart and resilient bridges where the inherent digital elements of the bridges facilitate its performance enhancement. The workshop aims at knowledge development of modelling, analysis, design, construction, inspection, damage, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of bridges by infusing the technical and digital aspects. Prof. Piyal Sengupta, Organizer of the event said, ““Smart and Resilient Bridges, a perfect amalgamation of the digital and technical aspects is the near future in the civil infrastructure across the world where the infused digital elements in the technology-enabled bridges can enhance their resilience under extreme loading.”
